CEO of Psych Health Associates
Dr. Luisa Vega, DNP, MSN, RN, PMHNP-C, AGPCNP-C and CEO of Psych Health Associates, powered by Spectrum Medical Partners, was born in the Dominican Republic, and was raised in Puerto Rico. At age 18 she joined the U.S. military and served in the Army Reserves for eight years.
Dr. Vega also worked for Verizon as a telecommunications Engineer in New York and was responsible for DSL planning for the entire state and did budget analysis for 13 states. While working in the Verizon central office, she was directly exposed to the devasting events of 911 and its tragic aftermath. After working for six months in ground zero, she developed health conditions which propelled her to move to Florida to pursue a career in nursing. After graduating with her nursing degree, she took a job with the Bay Pines VA located in Saint Petersburg, FL. and worked in the cardiac step-down unit, which sparked her interest in heart failure readmissions. While at the VA she was also a student with Duke University and completed research in heart failure readmissions. At the same time, she also served as a clinical instructor/professor for South University.
After completing her doctorate degree from Duke University, she became a geriatric nurse practitioner and provided support in several post-acute facilities which sparked her passion for behavioral and mental health and addiction medicine. Although her specialty was in cardiology and heart failure readmissions, she saw a need to provide proper medication management and better psychiatric services for long term care facilities. She then attended Eastern Kentucky University where she obtained her post-master’s degree and became a psych certified mental health nurse practitioner.
In 2020 she partnered with Spectrum Medical Partners and launched Psych Health Associates, a behavioral health group that provides quality and compassionate psychiatric care to residents residing in skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities. PHA is laser-focused on helping facilities improve CMS star ratings by providing proactive screenings of new admissions, timely evaluation, and proper medication management that consistently improves a facility’s quality measures and patient outcomes.
Dr. Vega also has an outpatient office in Brandon, FL, and provides psychiatric support at an addiction rehab facility in her spare time. Dr. Vega has three adult children, is happily married, and enjoys spending time with her cats and family.
